End Mills Handle Gummy Materials That Stick to Tools

Shops machining materials like 304 stainless steel or Ti-6AI4V may find use for the Pystl from GWS Tool Cutting Tool Inserts Group, which is designed for full relief so as to provide a cutting edge that is both rigid and free-cutting.

Another feature making the end mill useful for gummy materials like 316L and 303 stainless steel is the index design incorporated into the four-flute and five-CCMT Insert flute tools. The design reduces vibration in machining operations by breaking up the harmonic resonance prominent with end mills using equal spacing between each flute. Additionally, a tapered core is included for deflection during machining.

The series features a nano-PVD coating that incorporates elements like aluminum and chromium for hardness, heat resistance and lubricity. Micro-grain carbide is used for the base. The series, which includes four-, five- and seven-flute end mills offers tools available in diameters ranging from 1/8" to 1ΒΌ" with radii ranging from 0.010" to 0.250". Shank treatment for added anti-pullout protection is also available.
